We have three great groups this quarter:
- Yolo Food Bank. Yolo Food Bank's mission is to end hunger and malnutrition in Yolo County. Their goals are: to identify and respond to hunger needs; improve the health and well-being of food insecure residents by offering nutritious foods, including fresh produce and incorporating nutrition education into their programs; partner and collaborate with other agencies in the community to reach diverse populations in need; assure food safety; be a dependable provider; be efficient, cost effective and fiscally responsible; respect and honor all people.
- Soroptomist International of Davis. Soroptomist International of Davis' members work to support: Women and girls' access to education and career development; Foster children and aged-out foster youths; Community nonprofits like women's shelters and crisis nurseries; and Victims of human trafficking and sex slavery.
- Yolo Basin Foundation. Yolo Basin Foundation is dedicated to the appreciation and stewardship of wetlands and wildlife in the Yolo Bypass through education and innovative partnerships.

Yolo Food Bank
Yolo Food Bank’s mission “to end hunger and malnutrition in Yolo County” has never had greater meaning that it has in the past five months. The unimaginable and unprecedented COVID-19 socioeconomic disaster has increased the demand for food assistance in our community by 60%, and the organization is in the midst of what’s predicted to be a multi-year response to the crisis. Recovering and collecting, storing, packing, and distributing more than 3.1 million pounds of food since mid-March via four pandemic relief programs to 45,000 people each month is occurring at extraordinary expense to Yolo Food Bank. Operating costs have risen by 75% per month, and the organization is relying upon the private donors who provide traditionally more than 90% of the annual budget to fill the gap, as FEMA and similar reimbursements now are exhausted. Working families, many reaching out for assistance for the first time due to sudden economic hardship, constitute much of the clientele. Neighbors are in need, and every additional dollar makes a difference, saving lives, increasing families’ resilience, and preserving the future of Yolo County’s eventual economic return. Food for as many as three meals is made possible by every dollar that you donate. This is the moment for 100 Women Who Care Yolo County to make a heroic investment in Yolo Food Bank!

Soroptomist International of Davis
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization providing women and girls with access to resources they need for
economic empowerment. SI Davis has 50 members supporting its programs.
The funds from 100+ Women Who Care will be used for three core programs:
Live Your Dream. Live Your Dream recognizes female heads of household completing undergraduate or vocational education. It
supports women improving their education and employment prospects, leading to better lives. In 2020, we
distributed $6,500 in grants, helping four single mothers. Our top recipient earned $3,500 more at the regional
level.
Dream It Be It. Dream It Be It provides career-readiness and life-skills training for at-risk teens. We partner with Davis’
continuation high school. Members and volunteer speakers meet with students monthly to teach practical skills, and
introduce students to employers and professional opportunities.
Scholarships. SI Davis provides college and trade-school scholarships to female high school seniors in Davis. In 2020, we
awarded a combined $8,000 to four graduates. We offer ongoing mentoring, like weekly check-ins to hold them
accountable to their educational plans, or guidance with developing a course plan.
Funds
The pandemic undercut our fundraising capacity and threatens the viability of our work. Our programs serve those
disproportionately affected, particularly by loss of child care and income. Loss of our primary fundraiser, the beer
booth at the Davis Farmers Market, left us with a budget shortfall over $30,000. Support from 100+ Women Who
Care would sustain our support of local women and girls.

Yolo Basin Foundation
Yolo Basin Foundation has been a local leader in environmental education for thirty years. Our Discover the Flyway program provides meaningful experiences with nature that leave K-12 students with a lasting appreciation of our local wetlands and wildlife. In recent years, research has shown that experience with nature at an early age is formative to a child’s development, and ultimately, to the adults we all become.
This school year, we are committed to ensuring that Yolo County students will still have these important experiences. We will offer teachers flexible options to engage students in their classrooms or homes. Funding from 100 Women Who Care will allow us to provide virtual live field trips for free to Yolo County’s underserved Title 1 classes and develop recorded learning activities for Yolo County teachers. Your contribution takes the fundraising burden off teachers, parents and PTO volunteers of Yolo County’s Title 1 schools. The recorded lessons will allow all students to learn science and social studies in a unique and fun way. Making these videos requires equipment as well as staff time to transform hands-on Discover the Flyway activities into recorded versions that will be a resource for years to come, which your funding would provide.
Especially in these challenging times, our goal continues to provide meaningful experiences with nature that students wouldn’t otherwise have. For many of the students we serve this is their first experience in nature. We can’t wait for more children to say “This is science!? I love it!"
